Instructions for Hangman

This is an AJAX/PHP version of the classic Hangman game.

Guess letters one at a time by typing them into the Enter Letter box above.
As you guess you will be able to see your progress by the beautiful ASCII images and the text below it. The Wrong Letters line displays letters you've tried but that weren't in the word.

Beware: If you guess the same wrong letter twice, it will count as two wrong guesses, whereas guessing the same correct letter twice will only count the once.

For a new word you need can either click the New Word link, or when a game ends press the 'Y' key on your keyboard.

You can choose the category from which words are drawn by using the checkboxes under the Categories section.
The new list selection will be used for your next word. If you want to move there straight away: click New Word.

If Hangman doesn't seem to be working, either your web browser doesn't support Javascript, or it's been disabled.
